DETROIT POLO CLUB
My friends and I have been traveling to Detroit for years to revel in its techno scene, which is another story all in itself. In May 2017, I was headed there to attend the Movement Festival and thought I’d check out Detroit Polo Club while I was in town.
It was early spring, so they were still practicing in the arena while waiting for the grass field to dry out from winter. It was really nice to sit in the sun and watch some polo and chat about shared passions!
These guys have a really good group of dedicated players who practice nearly year-round: in the arena, indoors, and on the grass as weather permits. I have to say I am a bit jealous of that.
The club hosts two big events every year: The Hartland Polo Classic in early summer, and the Gold Cup in the fall. My club, Darlington, plays in the Hartland Classic. Detroit Polo club has a really cool promo video that was shot during last year’s game.
After my May visit, I returned the following September for the Gold Cup, which was a really nice event! The following day, they even let me play a chukker on a really nice horse. It’s so cool to be a part of the polo community and have opportunities like that. I’m looking forward to visiting this club more over the summer!
